It's really important to know if your marketing is working or not. When you know your marketing is working you have the edge.
In order to know if what your doing with your internet marketing is having the desired effect, you need to track it somehow, so you can start getting some statistics.
One of the best choices that an internet marketer can make, is the free Google analytics tool. Although Google can be a pain to many of us marketers, it also offers some great resources to help us, and when they are free, you would be foolish not to take advantage.
Google offers a ton of tools that webmasters can use to track the success of their efforts and Google analytics is one of those methods. All you need to do is sign up for a free account, click a few buttons and copy and paste some code directly on to your website. Google will show you how to do all that with their helpful tutorials.
If you are still lost you can copy the code and get someone to install it on your site for you. You could probably look on Fiverr for someone who would be willing to do that for you for $5.
When your code is installed you can begin to build up a picture of where your traffic is coming from, what is working (that you should do more of) and what isn't working (that you should stop wasting your time on).
Once you have the code on your site and you have at least a basic knowledge of what you're looking for, you can then start tracking what is working for you and what is not.
For example, let's say that you have started making some changes to your website and you want to know which changes are resulting in more optins or more sales. How do you know? Well, you can look over the data that the code has provided you to see if a given change has resulted in an increase (or decrease) in traffic or sales.
One word of warning here though, when making any type of change to your marketing or your onsite seo or appearance, make sure you only make one change at a time. If you make several changes at once and you see a difference, good or bad, in the amount of traffic or conversions you get, you won't know which one of the changes made the difference. It can take hours, days or weeks for the results to show up when it comes to SEO, and with the new changes in the Google algorithms.
It's important that you don't make changes that are going to hinder your results, without knowing which changes they were! So try to make one change at a time so you have half an idea of what it is that you currently do with your internet marketing that is actually working.
If your traffic went up, great, try something else to see if you can increase it even more. If it went down, go back to what you had before and try something else. This is why learning the importance of internet marketing statistics and how to properly make them work for you is so important.
Keep checking and keep measuring. It can be time consuming and perhaps even a tad boring at times, but it could make the difference between your business working…or not!
